Questions and answers
Questions the reading room is asked most often.
Is the population of Irad really 4,626,000?
That is the official population of the whole territory at the 2018 census. It is the sum of the enumerated population of the Zone and the estimate for the Autonomous Tribal Regions, where the census was not carried out. The Office publishes no other figure.
Will my census answers go to the tax service?
No. Under the Official Statistics Act individual answers are confidential and are used for statistics only. Only totals are published, and no total is published for fewer than three businesses.
I sell from a stall at the bazaar. Do I have to take part in the business census?
Yes. Every market stall, workshop and farm is counted, whether or not it is registered. The census slip you receive is asked for by the Register of Firms until 30 November 2026.
Why are there no figures for unemployment?
The Office does not yet run a labour force survey. Employment by sector is in the 2018 census volume on the labour force; a survey is in the Office's programme for after the business census.
Do the wage figures include the Autonomous Tribal Regions?
No. Wages and Incomes covers employers in the Zone only, from their payroll reports. Pay in dollars at foreign firms and the installations is not included.
Can I get a table that is not published?
Yes, if it can be produced from existing data without revealing any household or business. Write to library@stats.iradgov.org with what you need; simple tables are free, special processing is charged at cost.
When is the next population census?
The Population Census Act calls for a census at least every ten years. Preparations are planned for a census in 2028; the date will be fixed by executive directive.
